Our Purpose

Tō Mātou Moemoeā

Our Vision

Whakahaumaru ngā tuupuna kua wehe atu ki te arai, Whakahaumaru ngā uri mokopuna me ngā tāngata Māori

Safeguard those who have passed over to safeguard those who become successors.

- Nā Waraki Nganeko

The vision of this whakatauaki conveys a collective sense of nurturing intergenerational wellbeing. The pou of our defined takiwā encompasses all our hapū, marae, iwi, and the area that we know as Te Puaha ki Manuka, whiti atu ki Tikapa moana.

Tō Mātou Tohu

Our Logo

The tohu takes its shape from a kahu in flight (see Figure 1 for clarity). The kāhu acknowledges the late Māori Queen, Te Arikinui Te Atairangikaahu, and serves as a tribute to the kaumātua and rūruhi who established the Te Pūaha ki Mānuka Support Forum and Huakina Development Trust over the past 45 years.

At the centre of the tohu are ten koru, representing the ten iwi and hapū currently represented on the board. The koru also symbolise hauora, gathering beneath the wings of the kahu — a visual reminder that iwi and hapū continue to uphold the aspirations of those kaumātua and rūruhi who came before us.

The tohu was designed by Maaka Potini (Ngāti Tamaoho), whose creative vision honours our past while shaping a future grounded in whakapapa, unity, and mana motuhake.

Tō Mātou Whakapapa

Honouring Our Past

Our whakapapa connects us to the whenua, to our tūpuna, and to each other. It’s through this whakapapa that our kaupapa was born — and continues to evolve.

The kaupapa we carry today was shaped by the vision, courage, and leadership of many who came before us. From the early influence of Te Puaha ki Manuka, to the establishment of Huakina Development Trust, and the collective strength of Mana Whenua i Tāmaki Makaurau, our whakapapa tells the story of Māori-led action in the pursuit of wellbeing for our people.
